Sparkles by Jennifer Donovan

Description

Meet Sparkles the seahorse. I chose a seahorse because I have been to Kelly Tarlton’s aquarium and saw the tiny seahorses; they are really cool. Male sea horses give birth to their young. Sea horses are fish, not horses. They are excellent at camouflage. They are predators and eat by sucking up small prey through their long snouts. They live in shallow and tropical marine environments.

Method: I studied different abstract sculpture designs. I made a picture of a sea horse and used it as a template for the foam. While it was setting, I added paper pulp beads that stuck really well. I then covered the foam in papaer pulp. I also used folded paper to give the tail some texture. I used rolled newspaper for the eyes. I used cardboard covered in handmade paper and string for the fins. I used denim paper for the body.
